Summary

The Instructional Designer (Assessment Programs) supports and leads the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of technical certifications, assessments, and learning materials across the Cornerstone Certification Program. This role contributes to the full lifecycle of credential development, from Job Task Analysis (JTA), blueprint design, and item development through standard setting, LMS asset management, and recurring program operations, while also executing hands-on development and maintenance tasks with a high degree of quality and accuracy.

This is a cross-functional role that draws on expertise in instructional design methodology, assessment development, credentialing best practices, project execution, and stakeholder management. The Instructional Designer (Assessment Programs) applies structured program management practices and data-driven decision making to deliver credentials that carry genuine professional value across the Cornerstone ecosystem.

In This Role You Will

• Certification Design and Development
• Participate in and support the design, development, and refresh of certifications and assessments, including Job Task Analysis (JTA), Minimally Qualified Candidate (MQC) profiling, examination blueprint design, item development, standard setting, and cut score determination, in alignment with industry credentialing standards
• Review examination items and credential content for clarity, accuracy, cognitive level, alignment to blueprint specifications, and freedom from bias prior to deployment
• Provide content direction and blueprint alignment guidance for the development of candidate-facing support materials

Content Maintenance and Accuracy

Execute ongoing certification maintenance activities, including content updates tied to product releases, item bank revisions, metadata and link corrections, and updates to Salesforce Knowledge articles to keep credentials current and accurate

• Maintain content accuracy and integrity across all assigned certification assets and documentation
• Project and Program Management
• Manage assigned certification development tasks and deliverables within established timelines, communicating progress and escalating blockers as needed
• For senior-level assignments, own certification projects from inception to completion, managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations across all phases of development
• Program Documentation and SOPs
• Maintain accurate program documentation related to assigned development activities, including task inventories, item records, blueprints, MQC profiles, cut score records, update logs, and SOPs
• Develop and contribute to the validity evidence file and identify opportunities to improve documentation practices for scalability and consistency

Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with team members and stakeholders to ensure development activities are aligned with broader program strategy, stakeholder expectations, and delivery timelines
• Operate with autonomy and accountability by proactively surfacing issues, communicating status updates, and managing multiple workstreams with minimal oversight across time zones
• You Have Got What It Takes If You Have
• 3–5+ years of experience in instructional design with a focus on assessment or credentialing programs, including demonstrated experience in exam item writing and development
• Familiarity with credentialing best practices, assessment lifecycle management, and psychometric principles (e.g., blueprint alignment, item banking, standard setting)
• 3+ years of experience working within an LMS — creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting learning objects, assignments, and related program assets
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines independently
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — the ability to write with precision, professionalism, and clarity is essential, as a significant portion of collaboration occurs asynchronously across time zones
• Strong process orientation — following established SOPs, identifying gaps, building new documentation, and driving continuous improvement
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, surface issues proactively, and recommend practical solutions
• Comfort operating in a global environment, including awareness of privacy, data security, and responsible data handling obligations
• Aptitude to quickly learn new system functionality without requiring step-by-step instruction
• Bachelor's degree
• Background in HR technology, learning technology, enterprise SaaS, workforce transformation, or talent management

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Cornerstone LMS, including learning object management, assignments, and reporting
• Experience with Job Task Analysis (JTA) facilitation and cut score methodologies (e.g., modified Angoff)
• Experience leveraging AI tools to identify operational inefficiencies and drive scalable process improvements
• Master's degree in Instructional Design, Corporate Training, or a related field
