About the role

About Frontier Media

Frontier Media produces AUTONOMOUS: The Future of Robotics & Physical AI, a media brand and conference for the founders, engineers, investors, and enterprise operators building the industry. Our first event in San Francisco sold out with 600+ attendees from leading physical AI companies within 3.5 months. We are planning to double in 2027. We're a small, fast-moving team that is founder-led with a big vision.

The Role

We're hiring our first journalist. You'll cover technology for our media brand, with a focus on AI that works in the physical world: robots, autonomous vehicles, drones, chips, and the factories that make them. You don't need to have covered any of that before. If you've reported on startups, business, markets, science or consumer tech, and you can get people on the record, you'll learn this beat fast.

The core of the job is exclusive interviews with founders and CEOs, published on our site, plus a newsletter two to three times a week that recaps the week in tech and links back to your work. This is a reporting job, not a content marketing job. You'll find your own stories and book your own interviews.

What You'll Do

  • Report and write original stories on technology companies, with a focus on AI, robotics and hardware
  • Book and publish exclusive written interviews with founders, CEOs, investors, and researchers. You find them and you ask for them
  • Write and send a newsletter two to three times a week
  • Work directly with the founder on which companies matter and why
  • Invite the people you interview to speak at AUTONOMOUS, our conference. You'll do that outreach yourself
  • Write the occasional clearly labeled sponsored feature. Editorial comes first, and sponsored work is always labeled

What We're Looking For

  • Published bylines from a newsroom, on any beat: tech, startups, business, markets, science, or general news
  • Interviews you booked yourself. Tell us which ones and how you got them
  • You write in English at a publishable standard. Everything we publish is in English, and your writing will not be rewritten by an editor. This is the requirement that matters most
  • Curious about technology and quick to learn a new subject
  • Comfortable with cold outreach. A large part of this job is asking strangers for their time
  • Available to overlap with US hours. Our team is on US Eastern time, so this is an evening shift in India: 9am ET is 6:30pm IST
  • Self-directed. You'll be the only person on the desk
  • Not a fit: SEO and content-marketing writers with no reporting, or experience that is aggregation and rewrites only.

Why This Role

  • AI is moving off screens and into robots, cars, and factories. You'd cover that shift early, from inside the conference the industry shows up to
  • You are the media arm, not a cog in one. Your byline, your sources
  • Direct line to the founder
  • Your interviews put you in front of the people running these companies
