About the role

About The Company

Vistance Networks is a pioneering leader in the communications technology industry, dedicated to shaping the future of broadband and access network solutions. As part of Aurora Networks, formerly known as CommScope’s Access Networks Solution segment, we provide innovative, comprehensive end-to-end products that support global service providers in delivering reliable and high-performance connectivity. Our portfolio includes cutting-edge HFC, PON, and broadband network solutions designed to meet the evolving demands of a connected world. At Vistance Networks, we foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence, empowering our team members to push the boundaries of what is possible in the telecommunications landscape.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our dynamic cable access engineering team. In this specialized role, you will work closely with our US-based systems architects, hardware, and software teams to develop and maintain firmware for next-generation Full Duplex (FDX) Cable Amplifiers and smart RF nodes. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing embedded solutions that operate at the intersection of embedded Linux, Broadcom broadband SoC platforms, and sophisticated RF control systems. You will play a key role in implementing control loops such as AGC and tilt, managing hardware interfaces, and developing telemetry solutions for remote management and diagnostics. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative projects that directly impact global connectivity and broadband performance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in embedded software or firmware development using modern C and C++ is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of RF fundamentals, dynamic signal management, and control loops such as AGC within RF transmission paths, particularly in DOCSIS or cable TV plants. Experience working with Broadcom broadband SoCs and SDKs at the hardware abstraction layer is essential, along with expertise in Embedded Linux driver development, Linux networking internals, and peripheral bus protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART. Familiarity with implementing telemetry protocols such as gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT for device configuration and streaming telemetry is highly desirable. Additionally, proven experience collaborating effectively with US-based or distributed engineering teams and excellent technical communication skills are important for success in this role.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer at Vistance Networks, your responsibilities will include developing low-level firmware for Broadcom SoCs tailored for broadband and cable access platforms. You will design and implement embedded control loops for RF parameters such as AGC, tilt, and power management, ensuring optimal RF signal quality and system stability. Managing hardware interfaces will be a key aspect, including controlling peripherals, RF attenuators, equalizers, and environmental sensors via I2C, SPI, and GPIO protocols. You will develop and maintain custom Linux kernel drivers, character devices, and user-space daemons that interact directly with hardware registers and memory-mapped I/O. Architecting and implementing telemetry and remote management solutions using gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT will be crucial for real-time device health monitoring and diagnostics. You will actively participate in joint design reviews, code reviews, and architectural planning sessions with US-based teams, ensuring seamless integration and alignment on project goals. Additionally, you will perform hardware bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting on custom evaluation boards and production hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF spectrum analyzers to ensure firmware functionality and system reliability.
