Software Architect

The opportunity

The EMR Architect is a core architect of Experity's vision to become the indispensable operating system for on-demand healthcare.

By diagnosing the legacy WPF monolith and mapping a domain-by-domain path to the modern web stack, this role transforms a rigid, single-threaded system into modular, workflow-aligned services that clinicians can move through faster and clinics can build on. This position ensures Experity's core clinical record isn't just stable—it becomes the foundation the rest of the platform can modernize around.

We're modernizing a legacy Windows/WPF-based EMR into a new web stack. This is a hands-on architecture role—you'll spend real time in the existing codebase, not just reviewing it from above, debugging multi-threaded WPF code paths and tracing real-time data flows to build an accurate picture of what's actually broken.

You'll own the architecture story for this migration end to end: diagnosing what's wrong with the current system, communicating that visually to engineers and leadership, and mapping a domain-driven path from monolith to modular web app aligned to real clinical workflows.

This role demands someone who can go deep on legacy Windows internals one day and present a migration roadmap to executives the next—thriving on ambiguity, incomplete documentation, and a codebase that predates most of the team.

Business impact

• Reduces patient-record risk and clinician downtime by replacing a fragile, single-threaded WPF core with a stable, modular architecture that can scale with clinic volume.
• Speeds care delivery by decomposing the EMR into workflow-aligned domains (vitals, exam, charting), cutting the friction clinicians hit moving between tasks in a shared screen and shared thread.
• Improves engineering velocity and lowers migration risk by producing a domain-by-domain roadmap that lets teams modernize incrementally instead of a high-risk, all-at-once rewrite.

What you will own

Architecture diagnosis

• A visual architecture diagnosis (diagrams, not docs) mapping the current WPF/.NET system's failure points, including thread contention and real-time data flow issues.

Domain boundary mapping

• A domain boundary map splitting the EMR into workflow-aligned pieces (e.g., vitals intake, full exam, charting) instead of one monolithic screen and thread.

Migration roadmap

• A domain-by-domain migration roadmap sequencing the move from legacy WPF to the modern web stack, with near-term stabilization fixes called out separately from the long-term rebuild.

Architecture communication

• A set of before/after architecture diagrams usable at both engineer and executive review, showing tradeoffs at each migration stage.

What you'll do

• Diagnose and visually communicate problems in the current WPF/.NET architecture (diagrams, not just docs).
• Debug and reason about Windows/WPF applications, including multi-threaded and real-time data (WebSockets, live push) code paths.
• Balance near-term performance and sustainability fixes with a long-term web-stack migration plan.
• Analyze the codebase to identify domain boundaries, and propose splitting the EMR into pieces aligned to workflow personas (e.g., nurse taking vitals vs. PA doing a full exam).
• Produce a go-forward roadmap for migrating the legacy EMR domain-by-domain to the new stack.

What we're looking for

Experience

• Bachelor's degree in one of the STEM fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hands-on experience with Windows/WPF application development and debugging.
• Hands-on C# multi-threaded debugging experience (race conditions, UI freezes, thread contention).
• Strong visual communication skills—can explain complex architecture and tradeoffs through diagrams at any audience level (engineer to exec).
• Experience with domain modeling and breaking down monolithic systems into bounded domains.
• Solid .NET fundamentals, including async/await and efficient sync-to-async call patterns.
• Experience with WebSockets or real-time data push architectures.

Nice to have

• Prior experience on an EMR, healthcare, or other high-reliability enterprise application.
• Experience leading or contributing to a legacy-to-web-stack migration.
• Solid, hands-on experience with TypeScript, Next.js, and modern web architecture.
• Experience designing for concurrent request handling from UI through to DB in large-scale systems.
