IBM Research - India (https://research.ibm.com/labs/india) invites applications for its Internship Program in Artificial Intelligence and associated topics in Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences at its locations in Gurgaon and Bangalore.

Your Role And Responsibilities

Summer Internship Program is one of the major activities under the University Relation Program. IBM Research India offers Summer Internship to the bright students of leading technical Universities in India. IBM Research India provides industry experience and world class technologies to these students to show their talent. During internship students work on current projects happening in the lab, they solve problems with the help of their mentors. Idea is to give industry experience to the students and look for future employees.

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated engineer/scientist to contribute to our research and development efforts across multiple frontiers of AI. The candidate will work on one or more research areas: building and scaling large language models, agentic systems that work with small language models, auto evolution of agents including testing and debugging of agents, software stack for AI Accelerator cards, intersection of data and AI, and programmable language models.

Skills Required

• Required technical and professional expertise
• Strong programming fundamentals in Python
• Solid understanding of Machine Learning and Deep Learning
• Familiarity with Large Language Models, Generative AI, Transformers and NLP
• Hands-on experience with VS Code, Jupyter Notebooks, Git
• Exposure to AI Accelerator software stack
• Proficiency in AI libraries/frameworks: PyTorch
• Exposure to AI Agents, tool use, function calling, reasoning models
• Familiarity with techniques such as LoRA/PEFT, knowledge distillation, reinforcement learning, or RLHF/RLAIF is desirable.
• Ability to read, understand, and critically analyze research papers. Experience implementing ideas from research papers is highly desirable.
• Ability to reproduce research results and design-controlled experiments.

• B.E. / B.Tech
• M.E. / M.Tech (including Dual Degree programs)
• Ph.D.
• Minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA and above in the pursuing degree
• Time Duration
• The internship will be conducted between May and August 2027, for a maximum duration of 3 months.
• Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

Exposure to popular RL libraries and hands on experience with RL training. Familiarity with concepts on linear algebra, probability, statistics and to fundamentals of LLM models. Git, Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/ Openshift), Exposure to Triton and Hugging Face, Exposure to AI Accelerator software stack, Familiarity of AI Accelerator architectures, NCCL and compilers
