The Global Markets business of BNP Paribas helps its corporate and institutional clients leverage capital markets across the globe for their financing, risk management and investment needs. The IT teams owning these IT systems are made up of functions that include Technical and Application production support, Business Analysis & Project Management, Development & Maintenance and Quality Control. BNP Paribas India Solutions is an equal partner in these IT functions along with colleagues in other locations including Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore & Hong Kong. This partnership ranges from sharing the IT workload, executing global strategy to owning global applications offshore. The technology and engineering landscape is wide, encompassing almost all techniques and platforms. It continues to evolve and transform with the market with the business continuing to invest in it.

Position Purpose

We are looking for an experienced React Native Mobile Application Developer to join our development team and take responsibility for building high-quality, scalable and reliable mobile applications for iOS and Android.

You will be involved across the full development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through to testing, debugging, optimisation and release. We are looking for someone who takes pride in writing clean, maintainable code by default, understands the importance of automated testing, and can work confidently with video and podcast/audio content.

This is a hands-on development role suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems and building polished mobile experiences rather than simply making the pixels move around.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

• - Design, develop and maintain high-quality mobile applications using React Native.

• Build and maintain reusable, scalable and maintainable components.

• Develop features for both iOS and Android platforms.

• Work closely with product, UX/UI and backend teams to deliver new functionality.

• Integrate REST APIs and third-party services.

• Implement robust application state management.

• Work with multimedia functionality including:

• Video playback and streaming

• Audio and podcast playback

• Background audio

• Media controls

• Downloading/caching media where appropriate

• Handling different media formats and network conditions

• Performance optimisation for media-heavy applications

• Write automated unit and component tests and contribute to the wider testing strategy.

• Identify and resolve bugs, performance issues and technical debt.

• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

• Ensure applications are secure, performant, accessible and reliable.

• Contribute to technical architecture and development standards.

• Keep up to date with React Native, React, mobile development and relevant platform changes.

Contributing Responsibilities

• Upskilling of members in the vertical

• Interact with functional and technical architects to design enterprise solutions if required

• Conduct/Drive workshops and technical forums within the department on tech trends

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

• - Strong commercial experience developing applications with React Native.

• Excellent knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.

• Strong understanding of React, including:

• Experience with navigation libraries such as React Navigation.

• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming and promises.

• Experience integrating RESTful APIs.

• Experience handling authentication, secure storage and application state.

• Familiarity with state management solutions such as Mobx or similar.

Mobile Development

• Good understanding of iOS and Android development concepts.

• Experience debugging issues across both platforms.

• Understanding of native modules and when React Native needs to interact with native platform functionality.

• Experience working with app permissions, notifications, deep linking and device capabilities.

• Understanding of mobile performance, memory management and offline/network considerations.

• Experience preparing and deploying applications through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Testing

A strong understanding of testing is essential.

• Good understanding of unit testing principles and practices.

• Experience writing unit tests using tools such as Jest.

• Experience with React Native testing tools such as React Native Testing Library.

• Understanding of mocking, test doubles and test isolation.

• Ability to identify what should and should not be unit tested.

• Experience testing edge cases and failure scenarios, not just the happy path.

• Understanding of integration and end-to-end testing.

• Comfortable working within a test-driven or test-aware development environment.

• Ability to maintain tests as the application evolves.

Clean Code & Engineering Practices

We expect clean coding to be the default, rather than something that gets tidied up shortly before a code review.
