Junior Cake Engineer

A junior role for someone early in their baking career who wants to grow into cakes. You'll work alongside our senior cake team — preparing sponges, fillings and frostings, helping assemble and finish cakes, and learning decoration on the job. Freshers with a baking or hotel-management course are welcome; we'll teach the rest.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare cake batters, sponges, brownies and cookies under the guidance of the senior cake team
• Help prepare ganache, buttercream, whipped cream, fillings, compotes and frostings
• Assist with layering, filling, crumb-coating and frosting cakes
• Learn and help with decoration — piping, chocolate work, fruit and toppers — on approved designs
• Weigh and scale ingredients accurately; follow recipes, portion sizes and product specifications
• Keep consistency in taste, texture, appearance and weight, and flag anything that looks off
• Prep and organise the cake station before production starts
• Keep the workstation clean, organised and hygienic, and follow food-safety procedures
• Store finished cakes and ingredients correctly, and help minimise wastage
• Support the team during busy periods, bulk orders, and with packing and dispatch when needed
• What We’re Looking For
• A baking, pâtisserie or hotel-management course, or some bakery kitchen experience (0–1 year)
• Basic understanding of cake batters, sponges and frostings
• Keen eye for detail and neat finishing — and eager to learn decoration
• Comfortable working with both egg and eggless products
• Follows recipes and instructions accurately; takes feedback well
• Punctual, organised and hardworking
• Physically fit and able to work in a standing kitchen environment
