uDot Braille Tech is building a 2,400-pin refreshable tactile display that renders Braille, diagrams, and tactile animations for blind and visually impaired (BVI) students — paired with a curriculum-aligned edtech platform deployed in live Indian classrooms. You will be the sole engineer on the software side, owning the Android application, backend services, and AI-assisted content pipelines end to end.

What You'll Do

• Own and ship the Android app (Kotlin/Java) that drives the tactile display over BLE, USB, or serial communication
• Build and maintain AI/LLM pipelines that convert curriculum content into accessible tactile formats
• Design and maintain backend APIs and database schemas
• Set up and manage cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
• Document your architecture, maintain clean Git history, and write READMEs — institutional knowledge lives with you
• Collaborate directly with the hardware and mechatronics team and participate in school visits

Must-have Requirements

• Has been the main or only engineer on a real live product — a startup role, freelance engagement, or deployed personal project with actual users
• Can own architecture decisions: explains why they structured an app, API, or database a certain way and what they'd change now
• Has independently picked up a new stack or tool and shipped with it — no mentor or lead involved
• Has a real example of handling a vague brief or a mid-project scope change
• Has shipped a production mobile app (Android Kotlin/Java or React Native/Expo) plus at least one of: a backend/API they built, a React web frontend, or a cloud deployment they set up
• Writes Kotlin for device-level features — communicating with hardware over BLE, USB, or serial
• Documents their work: READMEs, clean Git history, written specs, or internal docs
• Comfortable working onsite in Bengaluru in a fast-paced, non-9-to-5 startup environment

Strong plus (good to have)

• Backend built by them — Node.js, Next.js, Python, or FastAPI with PostgreSQL or MongoDB schema they designed
• React / TypeScript frontend experience
• Cloud deployment (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with CI/CD they configured and maintained in production
• BLE, USB, or serial communication between an app and a physical device
• Edtech, assistive tech, medtech, or accessibility context in prior work
• Visible self-driven work — GitHub profile, Play Store link, hackathon builds, or open-source contributions
• GSoC participation
• Learnable on the job (please do not screen out for these)
• Firmware, kiosk or device-management setups, MQTT, accessibility APIs, or any specific framework not listed above
