JOB DESCRIPTION
Embedded Hardware Engineer
Location: New Delhi
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience Level: 2-4 Years
Department: Engineering / Electronics Hardware
ROLE PURPOSE
The engineer will translate product and electronics requirements into manufacturable, testable, and reliable hardware. The position requires sound engineering judgment across electrical performance, PCB constraints, component availability, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal behavior, safety, and production readiness. The engineer will work closely with firmware, mechanical, testing, manufacturing, and sourcing teams throughout the development cycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- PCB development: Develop multilayer PCBs from requirements through schematic capture, layout, design review, fabrication outputs, assembly support, and final release.
- Circuit design: Design and review analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, RF, and processor-based circuits using appropriate analysis, simulation, and engineering calculations.
- Power electronics: Design power input stages, DC-DC converters, linear regulators, battery interfaces, protection circuits, filtering, grounding, current sensing, and power distribution networks.
- RF communication: Develop PCB sections for wireless communication, including impedance-controlled routing, RF component placement, antenna interfaces, matching networks, filtering, grounding, isolation, and connector selection.
- High-speed design: Route high-speed buses and interfaces using controlled impedance, differential pairs, length matching, return-path management, stack-up planning, termination, and signal-integrity principles.
- Microprocessor routing: Design processor and microcontroller boards with reliable routing for clocks, memory, high-speed peripherals, power rails, reset, boot, debug, programming, and decoupling networks.
- Component libraries: Create and maintain schematic symbols, PCB footprints, 3D associations, pin mappings, courtyard and assembly details, and land patterns for custom or non-standard components.
- Engineering documentation: Prepare and maintain design calculations, schematics, bill of materials, fabrication and assembly drawings, stack-up requirements, test procedures, design-review records, and revision history.
- Prototype validation: Support board bring-up, debug hardware faults, conduct functional and electrical testing, verify interfaces and power rails, and document corrective actions.
- Production support: Work with PCB fabricators, assembly partners, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve manufacturability, assembly, component, and field issues.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
The role requires working knowledge of
- Power Integrity: Power-tree design, rail sequencing, decoupling, transient response, grounding, protection, efficiency, ripple, voltage drop, and thermal performance.
- Signal Integrity: Trace impedance, differential routing, timing and skew, return paths, crosstalk, via transitions, termination, and stack-up design.
- RF Design: Transmission-line behaviour, RF layouts, matching networks, antenna interfaces, shielding, filtering, and isolation.
- Processor Systems: Microcontrollers/microprocessors, memory, oscillators, reset and boot circuits, peripheral buses, debug interfaces, and high-density routing.
- Component Engineering: Datasheet interpretation, derating, tolerances, lifecycle and availability checks, approved alternatives, package verification, and library management.
- Design for Manufacture: PCB fabrication and assembly constraints, panelisation, clearances, drill/via selection, solderability, inspection, and production testing.
- Compliance: EMI/EMC practices, ESD and surge protection, electrical safety, environmental constraints, and applicable product requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline.
- 2–4 years of experience in schematic design and multilayer PCB layout for embedded electronic products.
- Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, semiconductor devices, power supplies, interfaces, sensors, communication circuits, and board-level design.
- Ability to interpret component datasheets, reference designs, standards, application notes, fabrication specifications, and assembly requirements.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analysers, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and relevant RF test equipment.
- Working knowledge of a professional EDA/PCB design tool and disciplined library, version-control, and release-management practices.
- Strong hardware debugging and fault-isolation skills with the ability to document and communicate technical findings clearly.
PREFFERED EXPERIENCE
Experience in one or more of the following will be valuable:
- PCB development for defence, aerospace, industrial, automotive, robotics, communications, or other reliability-sensitive products.
- Power integrity, signal integrity, thermal, or RF simulation and analysis.
- EMI/EMC, environmental, and reliability testing.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) and collaboration with PCB fabrication and contract manufacturing partners.
- Designing compact, high-density boards and custom footprints for unusual packages, connectors, sensors, modules, or mechanical constraints.
