About the Team and the Role

The Cell Engineering team at Ather is responsible for evaluating, benchmarking, and integrating cutting-edge Lithium-ion cell technologies into Ather's ecosystem, establishing advanced material characterization paradigms, and ensuring optimal vehicle performance, safety, and reliability.

This role is for a Consultant - Cell Engineer who will lead advanced cell evaluations, accelerate qualification timelines through rapid testing methodologies, formulate standardized characterization SOPs, and translate electrochemistry data into actionable insights for core engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with cell suppliers, external laboratories, and internal development teams to analyze testing data and benchmark Lithium-ion cell performance for production vehicles.
• Drive rapid evaluation methodologies, including Ultra-High Precision Coulometry (UHPC), coin cell fabrication/testing, and material characterization to accelerate cell qualification timelines.
• Build and manage active research collaborations with leading external testing facilities, research institutions, and universities to keep Ather at the forefront of battery technology.
• Establish next-generation in-house testing processes for Incoming Quality Control (IQC) and In-Process Quality Control (IPQC) to enhance cell quality assurance and defect detection capabilities.
• Formulate, establish, and standardize robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for material characterization and testing protocols across Ather's cell portfolio.
• Interpret complex electrochemistry and characterization data into clear insights to advise core battery systems, thermal management, and reliability teams.
• Experience and Qualifications
• B.Tech or M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemical Engineering, or a related field (or PhD with hands-on industrial research experience)
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience
• Must Have Competencies
• Deep understanding of electrochemistry, Lithium-ion cell chemistry, cell manufacturing and working principles, and degradation mechanisms.
• Expertise in rapid cell evaluation techniques, including Ultra-High Precision Coulometry (UHPC) and coin cell fabrication and testing.
• Practical exposure to advanced physical and chemical material characterization tools, including spectroscopy and microscopy.
• Ability to analyze complex electrochemical data and translate findings into technical recommendations for battery systems.
• Good to have Competencies
• Knowledge of global technological advancements, emerging battery chemistries, and industry best practices.
• Capability to formulate and standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cell testing and characterization protocols.
• Experience in engaging and building technical collaborations with external laboratories and research institutions.
• Application of first-principles engineering problem-solving to address novel electrochemical bottlenecks.
