Job Purpose

To supervise and coordinate the mechanical workforce during the execution of Mechanical Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities, ensuring that all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved project procedures, technical specifications, drawings, and project schedules.

The role will be responsible for coordinating with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Operations, and contractor teams to ensure smooth system completion, testing, commissioning, and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise mechanical workforce during execution of pre-commissioning activities, including:
• Vessel cleaning and internal inspection
• Internal checks and final box-up
• Card blasting and sheet blasting
• Steam blowing
• Air blowing
• Equipment inspection and preparation
• Other mechanical system pre-commissioning activities
• Ensure mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities are properly planned, organized, scheduled, executed, and documented in a safe and structured manner.
• Read and interpret OEM manuals, engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical specifications, procedures, and other project documentation.
• Perform troubleshooting and provide technical support during pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Demonstrate good knowledge of the working principles, operation, maintenance, installation, and commissioning requirements of rotating and static equipment.
• Identify and minimize installation and operational errors during mechanical installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate with Electrical and Instrumentation teams during commissioning activities, including:
• Motor solo runs
• Process line-up
• Load trials
• Equipment functional checks
• Interdisciplinary commissioning activities
• Coordinate effectively with contractors and other project teams to ensure timely completion of assigned activities.
• Read, interpret, and review technical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, procedures, and engineering documentation.
• Support system and subsystem scoping for process systems.
• Develop, review, and implement Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning procedures.
• Review and update P&ID redline mark-ups based on site conditions and commissioning requirements.
• Identify system-specific risks and ensure appropriate risk management and mitigation measures are implemented before and during commissioning activities.
• Provide inputs to the Completions Management System (CAMS), including review and approval of project-specific Inspection & Test Records (ITRs) / check sheets.
• Monitor progress against approved project plans and schedules and provide inputs to ensure achievement of agreed milestones.
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve technical and execution issues affecting project schedules.
• Ensure all mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities comply with HSE requirements, approved procedures, quality standards, and project specifications.
• Support system completion, testing, certification, and handover activities to Operations.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of Mechanical Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning activities in Oil & Gas / Petrochemical / Refinery / Energy projects.
• Knowledge of static and rotating equipment and their installation, operation, maintenance, and commissioning requirements.
• Good understanding of P&IDs, mechanical drawings, OEM manuals, technical specifications, and commissioning procedures.
• Knowledge of system/subsystem scoping and system completion processes.
• Experience in P&ID redline mark-ups.
• Understanding of ITRs, check sheets, punch-list management, and completion documentation.
• Knowledge of CAMS or similar Completions Management Systems.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of project HSE requirements and risk assessment/mitigation.
• Good computer skills and ability to work with project documentation and reporting systems.
• Education & Experience
• Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in Mechanical Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Refinery, Power, or similar process industries.
• Experience in supervising mechanical contractors and workforce at project sites.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary project environments.
