Role Description

• The Backend Engineer – MERN & AI Systems role at AlmaBetter is a full-time, on-site position based in Bengaluru.
• We are looking for a highly driven, product-focused engineer with strong expertise in the MERN stack and hands-on experience with Python-based AI integrations. In this role, you will build scalable web applications, develop backend services and APIs, integrate AI and LLM systems, and contribute across frontend, backend, databases, cloud deployment, and system architecture.
• You will take ownership of features end to end and work closely with product, design, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions. The role involves building modern AI-enabled products using technologies such as OpenAI APIs, AWS Bedrock, RAG pipelines, AI agents, automation workflows, vector databases, and modern web technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications using the MERN stack.
• Build responsive and high-performance frontend applications using React.js and Next.js.
• Develop robust backend services and APIs using Node.js, Express.js, and Python.
• Integrate AI and LLM capabilities including OpenAI APIs, AWS Bedrock, RAG pipelines, AI agents, and automation workflows.
• Design and optimize databases using MongoDB and SQL while maintaining scalable architecture.
• Build secure REST APIs and integrate external platforms and third-party services.
• Work closely with product, design, and business teams to convert requirements into technical solutions.
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical mentoring.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and deployment workflows.
• Stay updated with developments in AI, full-stack engineering, and modern web technologies.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in full-stack software development.
• Strong experience with React.js, Next.js, Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, and AWS.
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture, reusable components, and state management.
• Experience building RESTful APIs, backend services, and microservices.
• Experience working with WebSockets and real-time systems.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization systems including JWT, OAuth, and RBAC.
• Strong knowledge of system design and scalable software architecture.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI technologies such as OpenAI APIs or AWS Bedrock.
• Familiarity with LangChain, LlamaIndex, RAG pipelines, AI agents, vector databases, and AI workflows.
• Understanding of prompt engineering and AI application architecture.
• Experience with AWS EC2, Docker, GitHub Actions or CI/CD pipelines, and NGINX deployments.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Strong product-thinking mindset with an understanding of user experience and business impact.
• Experience working in fast-paced startup or product environments is preferred.
• Proven experience building and deploying production-grade applications.
• Experience building AI-enabled products or automation systems is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of TypeScript is a plus.
