Backend Engineer, Digital Health (AI + Wearables)

About the role

Velric is hiring a backend engineer to work on Reliu's digital health products. Reliu Health supports clinicians and patients with clinician-assigned habits, progress tracking and wearable data. Its connected iOS app helps users build healthier habits through AI-assisted suggestions and explanations.

This is a backend-first role. You will take ownership of the existing backend, improve how data moves through the products and build reliable integrations. You will work closely with the founder, who leads product direction and UI design. The role requires overlap with US working hours.

What you will do

• Review the existing codebase, understand the current architecture and fix gaps in reliability and maintainability.
• Own Supabase database design, schema changes, APIs and data flows across the products.
• Build and maintain wearable data integrations, starting with WHOOP and Apple HealthKit, with clear handling of user consent, permissions and integration failures.
• Develop the backend for clinician-assigned habits, patient progress and the flow of information between clinicians and patients.
• Build and improve AI-assisted habit suggestions and the explanations shown to users.
• Review AI-generated language and rewrite suggestions that sound artificial, vague or difficult to understand.
• Debug production issues, test changes and document technical decisions so the code is easier to maintain.
• Work directly with the founder to turn product requirements into working features and explain technical trade-offs clearly.

What we are looking for

• Hands-on experience building and maintaining backend systems used in real products.
• Strong database, API and data-modeling skills, with the ability to work confidently with Supabase.
• Experience connecting third-party APIs and handling permissions, errors and unreliable data flows.
• Practical experience with AI-powered product features and the judgment to check their output rather than accept it at face value.
• A strong ear for clear, natural English. You should be able to spot when AI-generated explanations sound wrong and make them credible and easy to understand.
• Careful handling of sensitive health data, user consent and access controls.
• The ability to take ownership of an existing codebase, investigate problems and communicate progress clearly.
• Availability to work remotely from anywhere in India, with overlap with US working hours to collaborate with a US-based founder.

• Digital health, clinician-facing software or patient-facing products.
• WHOOP, Apple HealthKit or other wearable integrations.
• iOS-connected backend systems and RevenueCat integrations.
• Improving an existing backend and shipping reliable fixes with limited supervision.
