Automotive Software Middleware Engineer - C++ Programming

Automotive Software Middleware Engineer to design, develop, integrate and implement complex middleware solutions for next-generation automotive infotainment and cockpit systems.

The role involves working across Android Automotive, AOSP, C++, Middleware, HAL/VHAL, IVI systems and IPC with opportunities to contribute to software platforms used in modern connected vehicles.

The ideal candidate should have strong C++ programming skills, hands-on automotive software experience and a good understanding of Android/Linux-based embedded systems.

The role also requires experience in automotive communication protocols, system integration, debugging, and developing scalable middleware components for connected vehicle platforms.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement automotive middleware components for infotainment and cockpit systems.
• Develop robust and scalable C++ middleware solutions for Android Automotive platforms.
• Work across AOSP, Android Framework, HAL/VHAL and middleware layers.
• Design and develop middleware components across domains such as :
• Multimedia
• Audio
• Bluetooth
• Projection
• Tuner
• System Infrastructure
• HMI
• Sensors
• Diagnostics
• Vehicle Services
• Implement and customize HAL/VHAL interfaces based on product requirements.
• Work with Android HIDL/interfaces and IPC mechanisms.
• Develop and integrate inter-ECU and intra-ECU communication solutions.
• Work with automotive communication and messaging frameworks, including IPCL.
• Understand and contribute to the Android boot sequence, startup/shutdown and fast-boot solutions.
• Participate in software architecture, design discussions and technical problem-solving.
• Perform debugging, root-cause analysis, software integration and issue resolution.
• Work with Android, Linux and QNX development environments.
• Support cross-compilation, build and deployment activities.
• Collaborate with architects, framework engineers, embedded developers, system engineers and testing teams.
• Follow software coding standards, design patterns and development processes.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills & Expertise

• Strong proficiency in C++.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts.
• Good knowledge of C++ design patterns.
• Understanding of memory management, multithreading and concurrency concepts.
• Familiarity with coding standards such as MISRA C/C++.
• Hands-on experience with Android-based IVI/Cockpit systems.
• Good understanding of AOSP architecture.
• Experience working with Android Framework components.
• Understanding of the Android boot sequence and framework module architecture.
• Experience with HAL/VHAL implementation and customization.
• Knowledge of HIDL and Android interface mechanisms.
• Exposure to Android Automotive development environments.
• Experience in one or more of the following domains :

Operating Systems & Build Systems

• Good understanding of Linux and/or QNX.
• Familiarity with Android/Linux/QNX development toolchains.
• Experience with cross-compilation and embedded build environments.
• Knowledge of build systems such as CMake, Gradle, Soong and Android Build System.
• Understanding of inter-ECU and intra-ECU communication.
• Familiarity with IPC mechanisms and messaging frameworks.
• Knowledge of IPCL or similar automotive communication technologies.
• Exposure to automotive communication architectures will be an advantage.

Development & Debugging Tools

• Experience with software integration and debugging.
• Exposure to log analysis, crash debugging and system-level troubleshooting.

Education

• 4+ years of relevant experience in automotive software development, middleware development or Android-based embedded systems.
• Candidates should preferably have hands-on experience in automotive IVI, Android Automotive, AOSP, C++ middleware, HAL/VHAL or embedded Linux/QNX environments.
